Enjoy Hiking at John Muir Trail

You might enjoy hiking a local trail for an hour every now and then or you can be one of those passionate, die-hard hikers who venture into the wilderness for three weeks for hiking of a lifetime. Anyway, I thought it would be appropriate to write about one of the 10 best places to hike in the world.

The John Muir Trail was ranked second in the West Coast Trail in Canada. This is one of the first long-distance trails in the U.S. and takes about 3 weeks for hiking. It stretches 211 miles through three national parks: Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia, two wilderness areas: Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness, a national monument: Devil Postpile and ends on Mt. Whitney in California. The trail is well known for its beautiful mountain scenery with 13,000 foot peaks, lakes for fishing unlimited canyons breath, opportunities for climbing and hiking a mild climate, friendly.

Ideally, there are four stops along the trail where hikers can rest and refuel: Tuolumne Meadows, which is 21 miles from Yosemite Valley, Red Meadow, 57 miles, Lake Edison, 85 miles and Camp Muir Trail, 108 miles.

Most people benefit from these rest areas, but not Reinhold Metzger, 61, of Point Loma. Metzger, a former U.S. Marine, past a group of British Royal Marines at the end of one of his previous trips along the John Muir Trail. Metzger has proven to be the fastest since backpacker John Muir himself. What an extraordinary achievement! If you want to read quotes from Metzger, visit SignOnSanDiego.
